Battery Passport: Trusted Lifecycle Traceability

Prepare for EU Battery Passport requirements: ensure compliance, transparency, and trusted product intelligence for your battery supply chain.

Why Act Now?

Under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, rechargeable batteries above 2 kWh placed on the EU market after February 2027 require a QR-linked Digital Battery Passport. Each passport must disclose composition, performance, carbon footprint, and end-of-life handling data for the individual battery unit. This record should remain accessible throughout the battery's operational lifetime, until recycling.

Non-compliance may result in restricted market access. For manufacturers and economic operators, the Battery Passport is not only a compliance obligation, it is becoming core digital infrastructure for responsible and transparent battery value chains.

2023Regulation enters into force: Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 establishes the legal basis for Battery Passport requirements and starts the transition toward transparent and traceable battery value chains.

Batteries in Scope

Battery Passport obligations are focused on battery categories with high lifecycle and environmental impact, regulated under the EU Battery Regulation.

EV Batteries

EV Batteries

Rechargeable batteries providing traction for fully electric and hybrid road vehicles — cars, vans, trucks and buses.

LMT Batteries

LMT Batteries

Sealed rechargeable batteries for light means of transport, including e-bikes, e-scooters and e-motorcycles.

Industrial Batteries
Above 2 kWh

Industrial Batteries Above 2 kWh

Rechargeable batteries used for energy storage, marine vessels, mining and construction equipment, and off-grid applications.

These affected battery groups involve complex product structures, multi-tier supply chains and detailed data requirements — making early preparation essential.

Who Needs to Prepare?

Battery Passport implementation affects more than the battery manufacturer. The entire supply chain and downstream users share obligations and data responsibilities.

Battery Manufacturers

Need to create and maintain passport records for affected batteries.

Cell, Module and Pack Suppliers

Need to provide product, material, performance and evidence data.

EV and Equipment OEMs

Need reliable access to battery identity, compliance and lifecycle information.

ESS and BESS Providers

Need structured data for industrial batteries and energy-storage applications.

Importers and Distributors

Need evidence that relevant batteries placed on the EU market meet passport requirements.

Service and Maintenance Partners

Need access to selected lifecycle, safety, repair and handling information.

Second-life Operators

Need access to selected lifecycle, safety, repair and handling information.

Recyclers

Need structured information on composition, safety, dismantling and material recovery.

Battery Passport Data

Battery Passport readiness requires a structured view of battery data, evidence and access rights.

Building Transparency Across the Battery Lifecycle

Movilizer Platform supports transparency and data integrity across the battery value chain by consolidating lifecycle information from sourcing and production through operational use, service, reuse and recycling.

The platform is designed to connect enterprise systems, supplier data and lifecycle events into structured passport records. It supports secure handling of sensitive information, role-based access, long-term record availability and regulator-ready data outputs.

This helps companies move from scattered documents and manual data collection toward an operational Battery Passport model that can scale across products, sites and partners.

How it Works

Movilizer Platform acts as a compliance orchestration layer between enterprise systems, supply chain partners and regulated market requirements.

Step 1
Identify the Battery

Assign a unique identifier and connect it to a QR code, Data Matrix, RFID, NFC or other data-carrier approach as required by the use case.

Access Battery Passport

Secure Access and Data Protection

Battery Passport implementation requires transparency, but not uncontrolled disclosure. Companies need to make required information available while protecting sensitive product, supplier and business data.

Stakeholder

Typical access

Public/ Customer

Selected product, sustainability and lifecycle information

OEM/ Operator

Product, service, warranty and operational information

Supplier

Data requests, evidence submission and supplier-specific workflows

Service Partner

Repair, maintenance, safety and lifecycle update information

Recycler

Composition, dismantling, safety and material recovery information

Authority

Internal Teams

Full data model, evidence records, approvals and integration status

Movilizer Platform supports secure data handling, role-based access, audit trails and data-leakage prevention so that Battery Passport transparency does not compromise business confidentiality.

User-Friendly Interface

Empower your workforce with a unified, intuitive experience that makes managing Battery Passports simple, responsive, and efficient—on desktop, tablet, or mobile.

From Passport Records to Business Value

A Battery Passport starts with compliance. The same structured data creates commercial benefits across the battery lifecycle - it can protect revenue, extend product value, and improve business decisions.

Improve Decisions

  • Supplier Transparency
  • Sustainability Analytics

Turn structured passport data into greater visibility across supplier evidence, carbon footprint, recycled content, compliance gaps, and lifecycle risks.

Extend Product Value

  • Reuse & Second Life
  • Recycling & Materials Recovery

Make reliable product history, condition and material data available for residual-value assessment, refurbishment, repurposing and efficient materials recovery.

Protect Revenue

  • Service & Warranty
  • Customer & Partner Trust

Use verified battery identity and lifecycle records to support faster service decisions, validate warranty cases, and provide controlled access to trusted product information.
